Donald C Powell's Obituary
Donald Powell, 93, of Pittsburgh, PA. passed away peacefully on April 30, 2023.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Irene (Soltis) Powell; his children Donald A. (Jamette) Powell, Carolyn A. (the late Joseph) Toth, David (Laryl) Powell; grandchildren Steffany (Craig) Kunkle, Donald E. (Carrie) Powell, Derek Powell, Lindsay Toth; one great-grandchild Connor Kunkle; also by many other family members.
Preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Dorothy Powell and his brother Robert (Dolores) Powell.
Donald was raised in Clairton, PA and graduated from Clairton High School in 1947. He proudly served two tours for his country in the United States Marine Corp including the Korean War in 1950 where he achieved the rank of S/SGT. Following his military service, Donald attended the University of Pittsburgh where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, leading to employment with USS Irvin Works and he retired in 1986. He earned his private pilot's license (instrument rated) and was a Steelers fan and season ticket holder for 45 years. He enjoyed traveling, model planes and trains, and playing poker. Donald also enjoyed spending time with his family and loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday May 4, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills, PA, 15236. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday May 5th, 2023 at 12:00pm. Burial will be handled at Jefferson Memorial Park.
