Dolores "Dolly" Sunkin's Obituary
Dolores “Dolly” Sunkin, age 90, quietly departed this life Monday, April 9, 2018 in Arvada, Colorado in her family’s care. Resting with those she loved, she was preceded in death by her husband Don Sunkin, son John Sunkin, and grandson Brian Sunkin.
She is survived by her son, Donald “Skip” Sunkin; grandson Donald Sunkin III (Lily) and two great-granddaughters, Sophia and Lauren; brothers John and Harry Roman, and their families; daughter in-law Christy Ortega Sunkin, granddaughter Carley Jones (Phillip) and great granddaughters Jaida and Avianna.
Dolly was truly a joy to be around and will be greatly missed. Her generous and adventurous spirit, pleasant personality, and love of laughter made her loved everyone who met her. She was a loving mother and wife who spoiled her grandsons and great granddaughters. She loved her family and cared for them through good times and bad. She also loved adventure and traveling, often visiting her sisters, family, and friends in Florida, Arizona and California, along with her best buddy Patty Ann. Dolores was an avid reader and James Michener was her favorite author; Texas was his only book she didn’t finish. Although playing games and dominos was a favorite pastime of hers, you always had to watch her because she would try to find a way to cheat, even if she would never admit to that. She was sweet with a side of zest.
Dolly was also ahead of her time. At a time when women were relegated to female-dominated professions, Delores worked at Westinghouse in Pittsburgh as an assistant draftsman aiding the engineering department preparing designs for specific projects. She loved that job and the people she worked with. When Dolly passed, it seemed like the ceasing of exquisite music. Time takes even the simple and small memories we hold of those we love and silently turns them into gold. She will always be with us in our hearts, our memories, and our lives. She often said that when she died, she wanted to go to Doggie Heaven. Her many dogs Daisy, Beau and Charlie were her companions, and there really are no words to describe what a total joy they were to her. If there’s a place in the after-life where little dogs and old dogs go, then that’s where you’ll find her with Daisy, Beau and Charlie.
Thank you to the staff at Mountain Vista Senior Care Center for their compassionate care.
