Derrick George Monahan's Obituary
Derrick Monahan, 43, of Pittsburgh, PA passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024 after a year long battle with Glioblastoma.
Derrick graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1999, and The University of Pittsburgh in 2004. He served 4 years in the United States Navy as a Petty Officer Second Class. For the last 13 years he worked at Bettis Atomic Laboratory where he created and led a team responsibile for offensive security.
As a man of diverse interests, his zeal for life was evident with his many interests like hiking, rock climbing, a passion for Yoga, meditation, biking, concerts, computer security, and world traveling. He was committed to studying unity in everything, recognizing the divine in people, places, and nature all around him.
Derrick is survived by his parents, George and Chris Monahan and siblings, twin brother Ryan (Dana) and sister Michele (Anthony) Miller. Proud uncle of Jackson, Caiden, Rylee, and Presley. He leaves behind many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
His spirit, deeply connected to continuous learning and improvement inspired all who knew him. Derrick valued creating new memories and experiences, and while his absence will create a deep void, we will honor his memory by carrying on the family traditions he established and continue to make new memories.
Friends and family will be received on Sunday, November 17, 2024 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills, PA, 15236.
A Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, November 18, 2024 at 10am.
Interment will be handled by Jefferson Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation or The Outlier Fund.
