David Jerome Dougherty's Obituary
David Dougherty, 81, passed peacefully on March 25, 2025.
Dave grew up in the South Hills with his loving parents, the late Francis and Elva (Sunday) Dougherty, and his beloved siblings: Raymond (Eileen), Dianne (Doyal) Miller, Nicholas, Gail Freynik, Linda Gutowski, and the late Patrick and Russell.
He is survived by his children, David (Sarah) Dougherty, Shannon Maggs, Briana (Russ) Creely, John Dougherty, Mike (Michelle) Cephas, and-true to form-someone named Jeff, who was only recently revealed to exist.
Dave was also blessed with grandchildren, including Devin, Cameron, Mia, Olivia, and Talia, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Always the life of the party, Dave was still cracking jokes in his final days and held on long enough to see the first day of Spring-just so he could tell us one last time:
"Spring has sprung, the grass is grizz, I wonder where the birdies is?
The birds is on the wing-now isn't that absurd?
I thought the wings was on the bird!"
Though he lost his legs in recent years, he never lost his sense of humor-or his legendary charm, which won over everyone he met, including all five of his ex-wives.
Whether dramatically reenacting his tragic yet hilarious "dog and the starfish" story (RIP dog) or rattling off his endless (and wildly inappropriate) jokes, Dave left us with more than enough memories to keep us laughing for years to come. He played hard and swore like a truck driver-probably because he was one. So, in his memory, please raise a glass and join us as we sing one of his favs: "Roll on, 18-wheeler... Roll on."
Services will be held at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236 on Monday, March 31, 2025, from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm at which time a Blessing Service will be held.
