David T. Butler's Obituary
David Thomas Butler, age 74, of Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, while surrounded by the love of family. He was born on February 26, 1951, in Pittsburgh, the son of the late James and Helen Butler.
Dave grew up in the Allentown neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he attended local schools, ultimately graduating from St. George School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of Electrician's Mate Third Class (EM3).
In November of 1970, Dave married Debra Kruger, the love of his life. Together, they raised four children, creating a warm and nurturing home filled with love and laughter.
Dave enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a journeyman electrician with IBEW Local #5. He was known for his exceptional work ethic and dedication to his craft. Dave's enjoyment for his career and selfless nature led him to often undertake home remodeling and various projects with enthusiasm, and he found great joy in spending time with whichever family member or friend he was helping.
Dave found happiness in being in the sunshine, whether taking a dip in his pool, waterskiing, or tending to his expansive 10 acres of land. He enjoyed staying active, engaging in tasks such as cutting wood and building puzzles. However, his greatest source of happiness came from spending time with his family, and he cherished the role of a grandfather, affectionately being known as "Pap." He was always eager to share joyful moments with his loved ones, offering rides on his tractor, jet ski or slip and slide to all.
Dave was known for his warm smile and fun-loving personality, easily making friends wherever he went. His family remembers him as a smart, sweet, and silly person whose kindness left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Debra Butler; his children, David Butler, Jr., Dawn (Scott) Butler, Daniel (Heather) Butler, and Darren (Heather) Butler; and grandchildren, Brittany, Brendan, Carson, Julianna, Samantha and Bryce. He also leaves his sisters, Kathy (the late, James) Schmaderer and Barbara Butler; brother, Daniel (Michelle) Butler and many beloved nieces and nephews who lovingly nicknamed him "Uncle Buckethead" and "Uncle Ta-Da".
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brothers, James (Toni) Butler, Jerry (Colleen) Butler, and Robert Butler, and sister, Susan (Tony) Eperthener.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for visitation from 1:00 - 3:00 pm and 5:00 -8:00 pm on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, and Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. A service in honor of Dave will be held in the chapel at the funeral home at 12:00 pm. Burial with military honors to follow at Jefferson Memorial Park.
