Daniel Vernon Mastascusa's Obituary
Daniel V. Mastascusa, known to many as "Danny" or "Pap" passed away with family by his side on Saturday, September 9, 2023. Born on April 26, 1940, in Pittsburgh, PA, Danny lived a life that was as vibrant and full of character as his beloved hometown.
Danny, a man of generous spirit and unyielding courage, was a beacon of light and laughter to all who knew him. His life was a testament to the power of love, family, and friendship. He was the beloved father of Kimberly (George) Aukerman and Pamalia (Daniel) McArdle, and the cherished grandfather of Joshua Mastascusa, Breanne (Derek) Sloan, and Shane Reed. His lineage continued with the birth of his great-grandchildren, Jocelyn Sloan, Anthony Mastascusa, Ava Mastascusa, Parker Sloan, and Aiden Reed. His life was graced by the love and companionship of these dear ones, even as he mourned the passing of his sister, Donata Mastascusa, and his parents, Anthony and Virginia Mastascusa.
Danny was a man of steel, both literally and figuratively. After graduating from CCAC with his Associate's degree in Applied Science in 1975, he embarked on a long and fulfilling career as a steel worker and scheduling manager for J&L Steel and LTV Steel. Danny was tough as steel but anyone who knew him knew his heart was as soft as a marshmallow.
In his leisure, Danny found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was a lover of the outdoors, finding peace and solace in the embrace of nature. He was an avid fisherman, his heart echoing the rhythm of the river as he cast his line into its depths. He found beauty in the wild creatures that shared his world, and in the companionship of his beloved pets. Above all, he loved being surrounded by his family and friends, their laughter and love filling his heart and home.
