Daniel John Ebbert, Jr.'s Obituary
Daniel J. Ebbert, Jr. of Cherry Hill, NJ passed away on July 19, 2025, at age 87. He was widowed since the passing of his wife Judith Lodge Ebbert in 2022. He was a devoted father to his sons Daniel J. Ebbert III, of North Wales, PA, and David Lodge Ebbert of West Lafayette, IN. He was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Vera Ebbert and is survived by his sons, his sister Ginger Thompson and Kenneth Ebbert and their families.
Daniel was born and raised in the Mt. Washington neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA in 1937. He graduated from St. Mary of the Mount High School and attended University of Dayton before transferring to the University of Pittsburgh to complete a Degree in Business and Engineering. Dan served in the U.S. Army ROTC while at Dayton, then in U.S. Army Reserve until 1966.
His career began in 1961 with a position at Hercules moving to Cumberland, MD, to work on the Polaris (missile) Development Program. In 1963, he transferred to Port Ewen, NY as an Application Engineer, and later became a Field Engineer in Washington, DC. When he moved to Philadelphia, PA, in 1966, he joined ITT Nesbitt, Inc. as a sales engineer focusing on new construction HVAC sales for the educational and commercial markets. This was the start of what came to be his career in building and automation controls. Most notably, he was with Robertshaw from 1973-78, Johnson Controls from 1978-1990.
Dan was active with projects and fund-raising efforts for the Boy Scouts of America, for the engineering organizations ASHRAE and ISA, and for his local church. In his community you could also find him at the Covered Bridge Swim Club in Barclay near his home or find him sailing with his sons at the Cooper River Yacht Club in Collingswood.
Dan was married to Judith Lodge Ebbert for over 50 years. Both were from the Pittsburgh area. They moved into their first and only house in the Barclay Farm section of Cherry Hill in 1971 and they remained there the rest of their lives.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday July 24, 2025, at 11 am in The Catholic Community of Christ Our Light Church 402 North Kings Highway, Cherry Hill, NJ. A memorial service will be held Saturday July 26, 2025, at 12 noon in the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Cemetery.
