Daniel J. Bender
age 96 of West Mifflin, formerly of Clairton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at his home. Born August 6, 1919 in Clairton, he is a son of the late Daniel and Josephine (Shuster) Bender. Daniel worked as a Foreman and retired after 43 years of service with the US Steel Corporation - Clairton Works. He is a veteran of WW II, serving in the U.S. Army and received several awards and citations including three Bronze Stars during his years of service. He was a member of the former First Presbyterian Church in Clairton. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, and reading, and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. He was a 50 year Masonic Lodge member, a member of AARP #1612, and was formerly a member of the American Legion - Daniel Keffer Post # 75. In additon to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Anne C. (Jackish) Bender and three sisters. Daniel is survived by a daughter, Deborah A. Bender; two sons, Donald J. Bender and Daniel G. (Cynthia) Bender; two granddaughters, Amy (Gary) Ruotolo and Marcie (Vincent) Pietrcollo; great-granddaughters Madison and Olivia Ruotolo, great-grandsons Lucas and Andrew Pietrcollo; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family and friends will gather for visitation on Monday, January 18, 2016 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home - 301 Curry Hollow Rd Pleasant Hills, PA 15236 A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 11:30 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Park. The family would like to thank all of the caregivers who provided excellent care to Daniel. Memorial contributions in Daniels name may be made to either Family Hospice and Palliative Care or the American Heart Association.
