Claire Dawn Kunsa's Obituary
It is with profound sadness and loving remembrance that the family of Claire Dawn Kunsa announces her peaceful passing on June 9, 2024, at her home in Jefferson Hills, PA. Born on May 30, 1946, to Ann (Harhai) and Donald Laatu, Claire possessed a generous spirit, loving nature, and thoughtful presence that touched everyone she knew. She was seventy-eight years old.
Claire grew up with three older sisters in Monessen, PA, and later attended California University of Pennsylvania. She dedicated thirty years to teaching English at Monessen Junior and Senior High Schools, where she inspired a love of literature and learning in countless students.
Claire's life was rich with love and joy, shared with her husband, Dick Kunsa, and their three daughters, Rodlyn (Jeff) Checcio of Pleasant Hills, PA; Shannon (Craig) McCullough of North Huntingdon, PA; and Ashley (Brad Coffield) Kunsa of Billings, MT. Her role as a mother was one she cherished deeply, rivaled only by being a devoted “grammy” to Addison (26), Alexander (23), Baylor (23), Dylan (18), Tobias (12), and Genevieve (4). She reveled in the delight of their discoveries and achievements, always offering her unwavering support and affection.
A woman of many interests, Claire found pleasure in the simple things. She enjoyed mystery novels, thrift shopping, word searches, and, most of all, spending time with her beloved grandchildren.
Claire's life was a reflection of her values—her generosity knew no bounds, her love was unconditional, and her thoughtfulness was a comfort to all. Claire's absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Claire was preceded in death by her mother, Ann; her father, Donald; and her sister, Jean Lane.
She is also survived by her sisters, Donna Elliott of Canonsburg and Cheryl Oliver of Moon Township, and many loving nieces and nephews. Claire’s family will carry forward her legacy of kindness and selflessness and her zest for life.
Claire's family will gather in private to honor her life and the immeasurable love she gave. In her memory, we celebrate a life that was, indeed, well-lived.
