Cheryl "Sherry" Stiver's Obituary
Cheryl "Sherry" Lynn Stiver, a beloved mother, sister and aunt, deeply loved and adored spouse, and a cherished and loyal friend to many, passed away on May 8, 2025, at the age of 79. In her final moments she was encompassed in love and peaceful sendoffs by all that touched her in her life.
Born on June 17, 1945, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Sherry lived a life full of compassion and selfless love for others.
She spent her early days in Clairton and Dravosburg before finding her dream home in Pleasant Hills.
In 1964, Sherry began her professional journey at Arthur Andersen, where she met her future husband, John "Jack" Stiver. They married on May 27, 1972, a partnership anchored in love and mutual respect that spanned over five decades. Sherry later served as an office manager for John A. Stiver CPA, where her meticulous attention to detail and organizational skills shone.
Sherry was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a faithful member of Pleasant Hills Presbyterian Church, where she actively participated in a weekly Bible study group, finding strength, community and ultimately lasting friendships in her faith.
Sherry had a deep passion for researching the family genealogy, using her free time to create intricate family trees that connected those she loved to their ancestral roots. In addition she was persistent in keepsaking lasting memories through her meticulous organization of photos.
Sherry's selflessness as a caretaker extended beyond her family life, as she was known for her generosity and thoughtfulness toward friends and neighbors. She was admired for her strength and tenacious spirit and will be especially remembered for being a stronghold to others in need. Her unwavering philosophy that she ingrained into others was to enjoy life, live each day as it comes and always do what makes you happy. Sherry demonstrated this in her many travels over the years, her favorite being an Alaskan cruise and annual jaunts to Las Vegas with Jack.
Sherry is survived by her devoted husband, Jack Stiver; her two children, Jason Stiver and Christel Stiver; her son-in-law, Wilfrido "Willy" Lopez-Avila; her sister, Darla Scheaffer; her nephew, Cody Scheaffer; and her niece, Lindsay Salopek and their children.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Lena Mae Cowden, and sister-in-law Sally Carolus.
Services for Sherry are private and have been entrusted to Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Pleasant Hills Presbyterian Church.
