Charles Robert Goelz's Obituary
Charles "Chuck" Robert Goelz, 78, of Baldwin, PA. passed away on February 2, 2026.
Chuck was a graduate of South Hills high school, the class of 1965. Chuck has always worked hard to provide for his family; in his teens, he helped his family by selling TV guides, doing so well that he won tickets to the 1960 world series. Later in his adult life, he worked for 27 years as a Food Processor for Byrnes and Kiefer Co., and 25 years for the Pittsburgh Airport as a first-class Limousine driver. He loved what he did for work, and the many good years he spent with both companies.
Throughout his life, Chuck had many things that he enjoyed. He could often be found watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Steelers and he loved collecting memorabilia of the teams along with anything Elvis and his favorite Horror and Science Fiction movies.
From a very early age and into his 60s, he was an avid duck pin bowler. Notably, when his father took him out to learn to bowl, they made it into the local paper which read:
"Boy Gives Dad Bowling Lesson - Usually it's the other way around, but here's a case where a Mount youngster gave his dad a lesson. Chuckie Goelz and his father, Charles, decided to go bowling. They stopped off at Poke's Lanes and the father watched his son roll a smooth 200. Chuckie is only 12 and only in his second year of bowling."
After duck pin bowling lanes started closing, he focused on Tenpin bowling and was so proud to teach his son Mark how to bowl.
Family was of the upmost importance to Chuck. He passed along to his son Mark and grandsons Coby, Hunter and Troy passions for wrestling, football and baseball, passions that impacted Mark as a teacher and coach. He enjoyed sharing his favorite science fiction and horror movies with his grandson Austin, their favorite movie being Scream 1. He also loved spending time with his one and only granddaughter, his "Christmas angel", Izzy; and his pride and joy was seeing his daughter Heather become a Radio City Rockette. Chuck was also an avid supporter of their family-owned dance studio of 43 years. The students loved him as much as the staff and affectionately called him "Mr. Penny".
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Charles Albert and Ruth Virginia Goelz; his brother-in-laws Ronald and Timothy St. Clair; and his cousin Robert Engel, who he was named after.
Charles is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years with a total of 62 years together, Georgia Ann "Penny" Goelz; his adored children Heather Lynn Goelz and Mark Charles (Missy) Goelz; his beloved grandchildren Izzy Belle and Austin Charles Carpenter, Coby Ryan, Hunter Christian and Troy William Goelz; his cousin in blood/ brother in life, Albert H. Engel and his goddaughter Melissa Kaufmann; and his sister-in-law Linda St. Clair. He was the favorite uncle of Jill (Joe) Schlosser and many other nieces and nephews.
The family would like thank the staff of UPMC Presbyterian Hospital and the Hospice staff for their exceptional care and compassion. They made a very difficult time easier.
