Charles Barkey's Obituary
Charles Barkey, 81, of Pleasant Hills, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family. He was born November 3, 1938 in Monongahela, the son of Joseph and Mary Petrick Barkey, Sr.
He was the son of humble immigrants. A brother to 16 older siblings. A husband of 49 years. A father to a son and daughter. And a grandfather to 3 princesses. He was a student. A scholarship athlete. A college graduate. And a soldier when his country called on him. He was a teacher. A coach. A tutor. A mentor. And a friend. To those who knew him, he was a good man. Maybe the best. To those closest to him, he was simply… Dad. And he died with the same class, perseverance, dignity, and courage with which he lived.
Charles played football at St. Vincent College and graduated from IUP. He received his master’s degree and taught math at Baldwin-Whitehall School District for over 30 years. He coached football at Baldwin and Thomas Jefferson high schools throughout his career. Charles was also a veteran of the US Army.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Barkey, with whom he celebrated nearly fifty years of marriage; son, Chuck Barkey of Whitehall; daughter, Sheri Morgan of Venetia; three granddaughters, Madison, Cailee, and Ashlyn Morgan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine brothers, Joseph Jr., Steve, Edward, John, Clarence, Vincent R., George Barkey, James Barkey, and infant brother, Vincent Barkey; and seven sisters, Helen Durieux, Stella Hillman, Irene Wilcosky, Marie Fedak, Dorothy Wilcosky, Betty Jane Bova, and Mary Ann Barkey.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2020 from 10am-noon at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home Inc. , 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236.
