Catherine M. Jones' Obituary
Catherine M. Jones, age 106, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 3, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family. Catherine was born on February 26, 1918, the daughter of the late James and Catherine (Morgan) Nelligan.
Catherine's journey began in a world vastly different from the one she left, but her values and spirit remained constant throughout the decades. She grew up in Greenfield, PA, where she attended local schools, graduating from Allderdice High School.
She dedicated her life to her family, serving as an extraordinary mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and even great-great-grandmother. Her role as a devoted wife and caretaker was fulfilled with grace and unwavering commitment. Known for her capacity to put others before herself, she became a cherished neighbor and friend. Her gentle nature was such that she never uttered a bad word about anyone and would be there to lend a hand to anyone who needed one.
Catherine's involvement with the Lincoln's Place Women's Club and her lifetime membership at the Squirrel Hill Christian Church, where she sang in the choir, were sources of great joy and fulfillment.
Her interests and hobbies painted a picture of a woman who cherished the simple joys of life. Catherine found solace and happiness in nature, often spending time fishing and vacationing at Conneaut Lake. These moments were precious, as they were spent surrounded by the laughter and love of her family. An avid card player, Catherine's infectious laughter could light up a room, and her competitive spirit was always in good fun.
Never one to leave the house without her earrings and makeup perfectly applied, she carried herself with a dignity that inspired admiration. Yet, it was her kind and generous spirit that truly defined her. She navigated life's challenges with grace and always managed to find the silver lining in every cloud. To describe Catherine as selfless, generous, and kind barely scratches the surface of the profound impact she had on those fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed by her family and those who knew and loved her.
Catherine is survived by her loving children, Lloyd (Gerry) Jones and Sharon (the late, Ron) Jablonski; her grandchildren, whom she adored, Gary (Angela) Jones, Karen (Tom) Fitsioris, Tracey (Chris) Roe, Beth (Jim) Dieterle, Ron Jablonski, and Lori (Dave) Smith. Catherine was the beloved great grandmother of Amanda, Maria, Elise, Eleni, Kennedy, Jimmy, Kevin, Tony, Ashley, and Reed, and was blessed to be the great-great grandmother of Cora, Calvin, Emma, and Olive. She was anxiously anticipating the arrival of her fifth great-great grandchild. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Catherine was predeceased by her beloved husband of 45 years, Philip A. Jones, and her siblings, Ann (Fred) Urquhart, James (Marce) Nelligan, and John (Pat) Nelligan.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for visitation on Monday, May 6, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. A service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, in the chapel at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately.
