Carl T. Carlson's Obituary
Carl Carlson, age 80, passed away on November 7, 2021, with his beloved wife Gemma by his side. His four sons were able to tell him they loved him throughout the week before his passing. Carl was known for his sense of humor, his kindness to others and his favorite phrase if you asked him how he was doing, his response always was "I couldn't be any better!" Carl was born in Pittsburgh, PA on April 5, 1941, he was the oldest of four children born to Ethel and Carl Carlson. His sisters in line were Gerda "Maxine" Carlson, Sue Carlson, (predeceased) and Janet Bartberger (Jack).
Carl served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966. He received a Good Conduct Medal and was an Expert Marksman. He has greatly supported the Disabled American Veterans.
Carl was a Baker for fifty-five years and worked at Weiss Bakery for 32 years, it became Carl's Bakery for six years and then he worked at Giant Eagle Bakery in Bridgeville for seventeen years.
He loved to garden, taking pride in his tomato plants, and spend time outdoors. Carl and Gemma loved to travel internationally and completed their 50 state USA bucket list in 2020. He loved the Dominican Republic and Hawaii, as well as Costa Rica and many other islands. Many of their travels and adventures were spent away as long as a month to truly experience their journeys.
Carl is survived by the love of his life, his wife Gemma. They met rolling skating at Spinning Wheels and had an instant connection and married a year later. They would have been married 34 years on December 4, 2021. Carl was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 and Gemma lovingly cared for Carl and dedicated her time to his well-being and extensive treatments at the cancer center.
Carl is also survived by his 4 loving sons, Carl Carlson (Cheryl) (Carl and Cassandra), John Carlson (Jessica) (Anna and Johnny), Aaron Carlson (Joanna) (Calvin), Brandon Stasny (Stephanie) (Kendal and Sydney) and Jennifer.
Viewing at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery and Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236 on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A blessing service will be held at noon in the funeral home Chapel, on Thursday, November 11, 2021.
