Bonita Jean Schmidt's Obituary
Bonita 'Bunny' (Easter) Schmidt, 70, of Pittsburgh, passed away surrounded by her loving family on February 19, 2023.
Bonita is survived by her children Jay (Lori) Schmidt and Matt (Mary) Schmidt; grandchildren Ronan, Bailey, Hillary, Clementine, and Fira; brothers Earl (Tara) Easter and Keith (Kathy) Easter; as well as many nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.
Preceded in death by parents Harold and Audrey (Kotouch) Easter.
Upon high school graduation, Bunny attended the Mercy School of Nursing where she became a Registered Nurse. She started her nursing career at Mercy Hospital and eventually moved to St. Clair Hospital where she retired. During one of her many battles with breast cancer, Bunny became an avid runner. She then became involved with the cross country program at Baldwin and eventually became one of the coaches for the high school team. Through coaching, Bunny was able to advocate for breast cancer research and awareness. She was a mentor to countless student athletes throughout her coaching career.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday, February 23, 2023 and Friday, February 24 from 2 pm - 4 pm and 6 pm - 8 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, February 25 at 10 am at Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Gabriel Worship Site, 5302 Greenridge Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. Everyone is to meet at the church.
