Betty Matthews' Obituary
Betty J. Matthews, age 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 3, 2025. Betty was born on October 15, 1940, in Glassport, the daughter of the late Charles and Rhoda (Caldwell) Davis.
Betty was a lifelong resident of Clairton and a graduate of Clairton High School. She was a longtime and faithful member of the Bible Baptist Temple. Betty was an excellent cook and enjoyed crocheting and quilting. Being one of five sisters, she was very close knit to her family. Betty was a dedicated and caring mother and homemaker whose greatest joy was the time she spent alongside her family, especially her children and grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her sons, Donald (Charlotte) Matthews Jr. and Kenneth Matthews; her sisters, Donna (Harry) Anton, Shirley (the late, Dave) Shaffer, Charlene (Rick) McElhatten, Susan (Ernie) DeSue, and Nancy (James) Ferraro. She also leaves many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald C. Matthews, Sr. and her son, Richard A. Matthews.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for visitation from 3:00 - 7:00 pm on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. A service in honor of Betty will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, in the chapel at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Betty may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2835 E Carson St Suite 200, Pittsburgh, PA 15203.
