Betty Jane Markis' Obituary
Betty J. Markis, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother passed away on August 6th, 2025 at the age of 102 at her home in Brookline surrounded by loving family. She was born on March 17th, 1923 in McKees Rocks, a true daughter of southwestern Pennsylvania.
Betty hailed from a large, close knit family, the youngest of 12 children. Blessed with the distinction of becoming a centenarian, Betty touched the lives of countless people over the years, a testament to the legacy she leaves behind.
In addition to her parents and siblings, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Peter F. Markis and granddaughter Bly Markis. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Eleanor Cameron and son Peter Markis Jr. (Cookie); three grandchildren Ivan Casilli (Melinda), Len Casilli (Charles Scrip, Jr) and Miriam Casilli. Also surviving are great grandchildren Rachael, Ashley and Kaitlyn Casilli and Brody Kunkle; great great grandson Aiden Casilli along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty was charming with a warm heart and made friends everywhere she went. She had a wonderful sense of humor and always made people feel like family. She was a master cook and gardener with a fondness for roses proudly displayed in her front yard. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and enjoyed her position of family matriarch.
Friends and family will be received from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Friday August 8, 2025 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills, PA, 15236. Be advised, there is construction on both sides of Curry Hollow Road. Please allow for extra travel time.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12pm on Saturday, August 9, 2025 in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will be handled by Jefferson Memorial Park.
