She left to have a family, then later attended Duquesne University for post-graduate study, earning a teaching certificate in special education.
Employed 11 years as a teacher at the Western Hills Special School in Moon Township. Later, she joined her husband in his business, Hattman Sales, Inc., as secretary/treasurer.
Betty's greatest love was her dear daughters, Susan and Kristine, and her much adored granddaughters, Meghan and Maureen. Her happiest moments were spending time with her two granddaughters and watching them grow into lovely young women.
Betty had numerous long-lasting friendships and was a good friend to many. She kept in touch with her cherished friends from high school, college, sorority, work, church, and neighborhood. She enjoyed luncheons with friends, travel, reading, fashion, classical music, yoga, crossword puzzles, and board games. She and husband Harold were excellent dancers and enjoyed many years of jitterbug and swing dancing. She was a long-time member of Sharon Presbyterian Church in Moon Township, where she served as wedding consultant.
As an employee of Kaufmann's, Betty became interested in fashion. Her appearance was important to her and she was always immaculately dressed and neatly groomed. A high school friend stated, “Betty always looked like she stepped out of 'Vogue.'"
Her cherished family and life-long friends were closest to her heart.
