Betty R. Abromovitz's Obituary
Betty "Sissy" LaBelle Abromovitz, a beacon of love, generosity, and selflessness, passed away peacefully in the city of her birth, Pittsburgh PA, on July 16, 2023, at the age of 93. Born on April 8, 1930, to the late Hymie and Ethel LaBelle, Sissy was a cherished member of her community and will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
Sissy was a beloved wife to her late husband Sidney, with whom she shared a remarkable 64 years of marriage. Together, they created a legacy that will continue to touch lives for generations to come. Sissy was a dedicated mother to her children, Michael (Linda) Abromovitz, and Michelle Abromovitz, and a doting grandmother to Jason and Jordan Abromovitz. She also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Martha (the late Zonny) LaBelle, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Sissy's professional life was as varied as it was fulfilling. Early in her career, she served as a Radio Dispatcher for the Allegheny County Police, earning the nickname "Radio Betty". Later, she found great joy in helping keep the children of Pleasant Hills safe as a School Crossing Guard. Yet, it was the business she owned and operated with her husband Sidney, Cloverleaf Cleaners in Pleasant Hills, that she held closest to her heart. For over 38 years, their business was a cornerstone of the community.
Betty “Sissy” LaBelle Abromovitz was a woman of many interests. She had a fondness for the excitement of the slot machines at the casino, but her true passion was people. Known for her generous spirit, she was often seen handing out candy to friends and strangers alike. She had a way of making everyone she met feel special and loved, and she famously referred to all as "beautiful".
In her passing, Sissy leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. She was a woman who lived her life with an open heart, always ready to give of herself for the benefit of others. Her generosity of spirit, her unwavering love for her family and friends, and her enduring commitment to her community will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Her life was a testament to the power of love, generosity, and selflessness, and she will be deeply missed by all. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to have known her. As we remember Betty “Sissy” LaBelle Abromovitz, let us strive to honor her life by embodying the qualities she valued most: love, generosity, and selflessness.
