Bertalan "Bert" Olah, Sr.'s Obituary
Bertalan “Bert” Olah Sr, age 93, of the Greenfield neighborhood of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2020. Bertalan was born on July 8, 1927 in Pittsburgh. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 70 years, Julianna M. (Sabo) Olah of Pittsburgh; his sons Bertalan Jr. (Joan) Olah of Mt. Lebanon, and David Olah (Janine) of Shippensburg, PA; his grandchildren Mark (Samantha) Olah, Michael Olah, Melissa (Tim) Murphy, Matthew Olah, Darren Olah, and Brad Olah; and his great grandchildren Laurel and Finn Murphy. He was preceded in death by his parents Mihaly and Julia Olah, and his brother Ernest Olah.
A graduate of Alderdice High School and Connelly Trade School, Bert proudly served in the United States Army overseas in Occupied Germany from 1946 to 1947. He was a businessman and printer by trade, employed by R.T. Lewis Printing Company until his retirement at which time he operated his own printing and mailing service for many clients in Pittsburgh. He was a lifelong member of the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Pittsburgh, member of the Syria Shrine of Pittsburgh, and served as a scoutmaster for Troop 27 in Hazelwood.
He loved traveling, gardening, spending time with his family, and visits from his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him and benefited from his kindness and generosity.
He will be laid to rest at Jefferson Memorial Park. A private service will be held for close family only, in light of the current hazards present due to COVID-19. Condolences may be shared at www.jeffersonmemorial.biz .
