Benjamin D. Augenstein's Obituary
Benjamin D. Augenstein, age 86, of Whitehall, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
Ben graduated from Baldwin High School, where he played in the brass section of the marching band, igniting a lifelong passion for music and performance. He proudly served in the United States Navy, where he started his journey in San Francisco and enjoyed time in Guam and Hong Kong, serving aboard the USS Ranger aircraft carrier. His experiences in the Navy were some of the most treasured moments of his life.
In addition to his military service, Ben had a vibrant spirit and a zest for life. He was known for his competitive roller dancing in his youth and held a deep appreciation for the Baldwin and Pitt marching bands, as well as Pitt sports. One of his fondest pleasures was dyeing Easter eggs, a tradition he started with his children that continued on with his grandchildren, creating joyful memories for generations.
Ben is survived by his wife Margie Augenstein; children Kimberly (Jonathan) Amey and Todd Augenstein; grandchildren Thomas Amey, Matthew Amey, and Samuel Amey; sisters-in-law Gerry Abbott and Laurel Figlar; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Harold and Margaret Augenstein and his brother Keith Augenstein.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 23, 2026 from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236. A funeral service will take place Tuesday, March 24 at 10:00 am in the funeral home's chapel. Burial to follow at Jefferson Memorial Park.
