Barbara Curio's Obituary
Barbara Curio, age 100, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away surrounded by her loving family on May 20, 2026. Born on August 24, 1925, Barbara was the daughter of the late Mato and Roza Zunic Durkin.
Barb grew up in Baldwin Borough with her dear three brothers and four sisters. She graduated from Baldwin High School in 1944 and always pulled her weight around the house. She cooked, baked, cleaned, tended to the animals - whatever it took. In fact, to help support her family and the WWII effort, she took a job at Homestead Steel Works.
She met the love of her life, Anthony (Tony) Curio and married in 1951. Barb and Tony raised three kids together: Carol, Rosemary, and David. During their 58-year long marriage, Barb sang in the Nativity Church choir, square-danced with Tony as her partner, and led the local Brownie Chapter. She also enjoyed playing bingo, going shopping, and reading her favorite books.
She became famous for her lasagna, pigs in a blanket, and best of all - fresh baked goods. Kids of the neighborhood always knew where to get a cookie, slice of cake, or piece of pie everyday of the week. It was no wonder that Grandma's house was the favorite place to be for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
100 years of singing, dancing, cooking, and baking seems to have an effect on a person. Barb will be greatly missed by all who had the chance to know her.
Barb is survived by her children Carol (Thomas) Scholle, Rosemary Siyufy, and David Curio; grandchildren, Erin (Nathan) Jay, Mark (Rachel) Scholle, Samantha Fetters, Chelsea (Vinnie) Zachetti, and Nicholas Scholle; great-grandchildren Owen Jay, Emmett Jay, and Henry Zachetti.
She is preceded in death by her husband Anthony Curio; siblings Mary Nedestup, Katherine Stelmaczyk, Michael Durkin, John Durkin, Caroline Durkin, Helen Herbert, and William Durkin; and son-in-law, Robert Siyufy.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, May 23rd, 2026 from 3:00 - 7:00 PM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, May 24th, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home.
