Andrew Zozom's Obituary
Age 95, born May 12, 1923 in Czechoslovakia came to the U.S. on October 29, 1929 through the port of New York, N.Y. on the vessel Lewiathan, died peacefully on November 5, 2018. Beloved husband, of 64 years, to the late Margaret (Uhlyar) Zozom. Proud father to Linda Zozom Kufen, David (Debbie) Zozom, and Robert (Kim) Zozom. Grandfather of Jason (Liz) Kufen, Adam Kufen, Andrew (Lauren) Kufen, Matthew (Jessica) Zozom, Kristin Zozom, and Brittany Zozom. Great-Grandfather of Austin and Thomas Kufen and Max Zozom.
Andrew proudly served his country during WWII in the Army of the United States Air Force Division (1943-1945) as a radio operator high speed 766 and carbine marksman. He served in the following battles and campaigns - Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea, South Philippines (Liberation) Luzon. He received the following decorations and citations - American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Stars, Philippines Liberation Ribbon With one Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, and a Victory Medal WWII. He was employed by Union Railroad for over 37 years.
Andrew was preceded in death by his parents Mike and Elizabeth Zozom, sisters; Anne Miskovich, Betty Pucci and brother; John Zozom.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh. A Blessing Service will follow at 8 pm in the funeral home's chapel. Online condolences may be left at www.jeffersonmemorial.biz.
