Alexander P. Hvizdos, age 98, of West Mifflin, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Thursday, September 12, 2024. Alexander was born on July 11, 1926, in Duquesne, the son of the late Albert and Anna (Yanichko) Hvizdos.
Alexander made his home and raised his family alongside his beloved wife of 76 years, Marcella (Kotvas) Hvizdos. In addition to his wife, Alexander leaves his loving son, David P. Hvizdos, Esq. and his wife, Michele. He was the cherished Pap to Aimee Lynne Hvizdos Noel (Craig Noel) and Alexander David Hvizdos. He also leaves his brother-in-law, Kenneth (the late, Joyce) Schulte, and nieces, Christine (James) Hepner and Laurie Schulte.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, George, Albert and Frank Hvizdos.
Alexander honorably served our country in the United States Navy during World War II where he was on a Fire and Rescue vessel. He continued to serve in Japan after the war had ended.
Alexander was quite handy and could often be found tinkering in his workshop. This helped lead him down a line for a successful career in the automotive industry with Fisher Body as a Foreman. He took meticulous care of his home, ensuring that the yard always looked perfect. Alexander was a talented artist and an avid golfer, even working as a caddy at Duquesne Country Club in the 1930’s. He proudly scored his first hole-in-one at the age of 80. He also enjoyed trips to the casino with his wife.
Above all else, he loved his family fiercely and cherished the memories made with them. Alexander was held in high regard by anyone whose path he crossed due to his loyal personality and caring nature. He was a wonderful and devoted Husband, Father, Pap, and Friend, who will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.
Services and burial have been entrusted to Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and will be held privately.
