Hannah Adaline (Drake) Hassinger, 99, of Venice, Florida, formerly of Bethel Park, PA, died on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 6 a.m. at home. Adaline was born June 23, 1921 to Edith Lola (Onstott) Drake and William Frank Drake. Adaline was the beloved wife of the late Donald Ray Hassinger. Adaline is survived by her three daughters, Lois M. Yerxa (Donald) of Venice, FL, Christine Pennington of Mt. Lebanon, PA, and Lynn Hagerty of Lakeville, MA; four grandchildren: Aaron Hassinger (Kim) of Lewis Center, OH, Anne Cawthorne (David) of Norwell, MA, Stephen F. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: William R. Drake and Annabelle Reid.
Mrs. Hassinger lived a very busy life helping to care for her aging parents and mother-in-law and raising five children. She loved to cook and host holiday meals for the family. Although she was not a professional interior decorator, she used her talents to organize, paint or wallpaper homes for family and friends. Adaline and her husband would open their home to out of town college students and military after church on Sundays. Her love of sewing led her to make clothes and dolls for her children and grandchildren. She was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. In 2005, she and her husband went to live in the home of their eldest daughter, Lois Yerxa, in Weymouth, MA. In 2013, Adaline moved to Venice, FL with her daughter and son-in-law after they retired. When she was able, she attended Christ Venice Methodist church and enjoyed all the wonderful people she met there. Adaline’s favorite song was “Joy Comes in the Morning (lyrics by the Gaithers). Her smile and infectious laugh will be dearly missed.
Services for Adaline will be held at a later date once family can safely gather. Online condolences may be shared at www.jeffersonmemorial.biz.
