David E. Book's Obituary
David Eugene Book, 69, of Pittsburgh, PA. passed away surrounded by his loving family on March 29, 2026. Born on July 10, 1956 in New Castle, PA.
David lived a life of curiosity and intellectual pursuit. He was proud to be a first-generation college graduate in his family, winning the National Merit Scholarship and gaining his Undergraduate degrees in Analytical Chemistry and Mathematics from Thiel College; Master's Degrees in Analytical Chemistry from Iowa State University and Quality Management from Loyola University New Orleans. He enjoyed taking part in multiple organizations, being a Member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the American Society for Quality and was a founding member of the Ion Spectroscopy Society. David would go on to spend many years as an Analytical Chemist for PPG as well as a Quality Professional for NIOSH.
When not in school or hard at work, David found many ways to further enrich his life. It would come as no surprise that he loved to read and took great pride in landscaping and in working with his hands. He was an avid comic book collector and train enthusiast, had a passion for genealogy and even traced his ancestors back to the 1600s. He was also a man of deep faith, always ready for a deep conversation. Above all, David was extremely devoted to his family, one of the best days of his life being the day his son was born.
David leaves behind the memories of his intellectualism, good sense of humor and hard work ethic. His loved ones will think of him every time they see his favorite things - butterflies and pandas. He will be greatly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
David is survived by his loving wife, Janet M. Book; his beloved son Timothy Book; his mother Theresa Book; siblings Gary Book and Kendra Shearer; and numerous nieces. He is preceded in death by his father Kenneth Book and brother Daniel Book.
Friends and family will be received from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills, PA, 15236.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10am on Friday, April 3, 2026 in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will be handled by Jefferson Memorial Park.
